NIDO response to Measles outbreak in Sharg Aj Jabal locality, South Darfur State December 2024.

East Jabal Marra is mountainous area bordering North Darfur and Central Darfur, the area is classified as hard to reach area with scanty  humanitarian services, and the area is currently hosting a huge number of New IDPs who arrived to the area recently due to the ongoing sudan conflict. On 17th December As soon as NIDO received update from MSF, NIDO formed Emergency response team composed of one medical doctor, one vaccinator and one Nutritionist. The team moved to the villages surrounding sunny where the cases were reported to verify, and 8 suspected cases were founded and treated. On 18th December NIDO Received 2 cases in Dirbat clinic. NIDO established Isolation Center in Dirbat with full staff led by Medical doctor and all necessary medication including Vit. A for treatment Severe cases that needs admission two cases admitted up to now. NIDO facilitated a mission for SMoH/ EHA department from Nyala to East Jabal Marra for verification and vaccination. The team arrived 20/12/2024. NIDO engaged in a field coordination Meeting with MSF team and MoH EHA team in Jawa and discussed a coordinated efforts to respond. In 21st December, NIDO and MSF started community awareness campaign through community outreach intervention in all NIDO catchment areas in Sunny, jawa, Dirbat, Dera, Kurny and will reach Sorro and surrounding villages. NIDO is conducting on-job training to the all PHC medical staff on measles prevention and case management in all NIDO PHCs. NIDO established a triage system in all entry points of PHCs to identify the cases to be isolated then treated, then more than 200 cases were identified and treated in NIDO clinics. NIDO implemented WASH program Support by UNICEF in East Darfur , Yassin locality , Muhajeria to responding Southern Sudanese’s refugees in the Topics below: Humanitarian situations accessing appropriate sanitation facilities and living in environments free of open defecation. @ of School with access to improved sanitation facilities @ of people in humanitarian situations who access and use safe drinking water.

SAFE Project (Biogas)

NIDO implemented Biogas project in east Darfur funded by WFP in 2015.The project covered sharia locality where 6 biogas were constructed to cover 6 schools to be used as school feeding.

SAFE Project School Farm (FFA)

NIDO implemented school farm project in east Darfur in 2015 which was supported by WFP. This project is covering six schools in Yassin & Sheria localities of East Darfur, aiming to help communities’ ownership of food for education activities and to ensure project sustainability. The project is successfully implemented and currently is at the final stage of storage and utilization of harvested crops for the benefit of the FFE programme.

SAFE PROJECT (FFW&FFT)

NIDO implemented SAFE projects in south and east Darfur which was funded by WFP in 2015.The projects covered 4 localities in South and East Darfur with componentof women IGA trainings and vocational training for youth, serving 17,450 beneficiaries.

COMMUNITY BASE ACTIVITIES,Community Outreach service

In Alsalam locality, NIDO, in collaboration with ARC INGO, is implementing community outreach initiatives. These efforts involve: Organizing health education sessions and sharing vital health messages. Tracking defaulters in Therapeutic Feeding Centers (TFC) and programs for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW). Enhancing community awareness, especially during public health campaigns like the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) and during epidemic outbreaks

COMMUNITY BASE ACTIVITIES ,Integrated Health and Nutrition Project

NIDO is currently implementing community outreach services which facilitating the way of finding the nutrition defaulters, conducting sessions and health messages and encouraging the P/LW to come to the centers for further follow up. This program has been running since 2016 up to date and it is supported by IMC INGO in deferent camps (Kalm, Alsalam and Alsereef).

Construction Project

NIDO implemented paediatric, women wards, 1 office, 2 halls, 2 toilets and 1 bath room in Ed Alfersan Hospital in 2016. Supported by UNAMID. NIDO implemented DCPSF project sup-grant under Alight and funded from UNDP in East Darfur state.

Community Response Training

NIDO implemented community training funded by World Vision INGO on health services focusing on nutrition that in order to promote their attitude and behaviour change such as (breastfeeding, complementary feeding, control of Vitamin A deficiency, sick child feeding etc…) conducted training in different localities ( Marshing, Otash  and Diriege camp.
